Technology

This year the school bought keyboards for our Ipads so that the children can record their work using Microsoft Word on the Ipads. We also continued to use Seesaw, which the children used to upload work from home. The senior room continued to use Studyladder.

Tech Week 2022

The children in the school from first to sixth class have engaged in computer classes for 7 weeks in March and April. All classes will work on Scratch as part of their computer classes.

Bee-bots in the Classroom

Miss Nolan introduced the children to bee-bots as a starting point for teaching control, directional language and programming. Bee-bots can accurately move in steps, turn in 90 degrees and remember up to 40 instructions.

Technology

This year saw a huge change in the way pupils in our school use technology. We purchased more iPads and a charging trolley for them and we engaged in Coding lessons with Coding Ireland. The school closure meant that we increased our use of tablets and laptops and programmes such as Seesaw, Zoom and Studyladder to help with our Remote Learning.

Building Circuits

As part of their learning about Electricity, 2nd - 6th Class investigated how electricity travels by building simple circuits. They examined different types of batteries and then worked in pairs to connect the components and build a circuit, which powered lightbulbs and electronic motors.

Tech Week 2021

Our school took part in Tech Week from 17th - 23rd April 2021. Throughout this year, we have increased our focus on using technology throughout the school and the Middle and Senior classes have been developing their Coding skills with Coding Ireland lessons. For Tech week, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Class designed their own apps for looking after a family pet. They came up with some very inventive designs! 5th and 6th Class pupils learned about Pixels and how they come together to form pictures. They also learned about The Internet of Things (IoT), using resources from Intel and Tech Week. They then designed their own IoT objects or technologies that they thought could make home life easier in the future.

Coding Lessons with Coding Ireland

The Middle and Senior classes have been engaging with Coding lessons, thanks to the School Coding Pack that was awarded to us by Coding Ireland. The 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th Class pupils have been learning about Scratch, creating their own projects and even building their own games. The pupils really enjoyed the coding lessons and made great progress on their Scratch projects.
